Save the Himalaya
Two years ago I was filming in Uttarakhand in Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary when the first landslides started. I immediately knew that something is wrong and then came back to Rudraprayag. The next day the sky was clear and it didn't rain. So I stayed back a day and then went to a near by village called Gauchar to interview a woman whose grand son was carried away by a leopard. Though I felt like going to Pauri region, but something deep within me was telling me to get out of the place.
I drove back to Delhi in my trusted Tata Safari. Within three days, nature showed us its violent side and swept away many a bridge, building, roads and villages. Thousands of people perished. Even today skeletons are being found.
If we destroy the nature, we will definitely paid back with more intensity.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. That is what is happening in the Himalaya.
DeleteLiked your video, Sabyasachi. Indeed, we are completely destroying all our mountains. I went to Ooty last year and was shocked to see how many homes have come up covering the entire mountain. I wonder if anything will be actually done or will we continue this mindless existence?
ReplyDeleteRachna,
DeleteWhile filming this, I was in Rudraprayag I was stunned that you can't stay without AC. Every hotel has got ACs fitted. It has become hot. About 15 years back, it was not hot.
Sharing to raise awareness. The mindless destruction is indeed very distressing. Where is our respect for Nature? Lost in human arrogance!
ReplyDeletei would say lost in human arrogance and greed. The hills are denuded. Not a blade of grass anymore. All trees have been cut off for fire wood or for timbre. There is not a single goral, bharal in sight in the mountains in most of the places. Even smaller herbivores like rabbits and birds have been hunted to extinction for the pot. We are inviting Lord Shiva to open his third eye.
DeleteThe mindless 'construction' will cause our destruction:(
ReplyDeleteIt will not leave us, it will not take us anywhere:(
I agree. It is a contractors dream. With nature hitting back and destroying our "constructions", there would be even more scope for construction. The construction mafia will have more work. Some stupid economists may say that construction activities will help in increasing GDP.
DeleteSo true......... We are destroying ourselves in the name of advancement.....
